About

Wheels of Time is a non-profit community group with the purpose of promoting and interest in history and heritage among young children. This isĀ achieved by running a scheme to encourage children, between the ages of 5 and 11, to visit museums and heritage sites.

The scheme was initially established in Kent in 2015, being run by a core team of volunteers (and still is). The Scheme received interest from museums and heritage venues outside of Kent, and so with a grant from Arts Council England in 2021, was able to expand to other areas. It ran a pilot Scheme in Dorset in 2022, and after lots of careful review and consideration throughout 2023, relaunched with other Areas in 2024.

Children participating in Wheels of Time have fun exploring participating museums & heritage venues following Roamin’ Rex’s map. They collect a badge individual to each venue. They can claim Roamin’ Rex’s Award Badge badges for a particular Area for visiting 10, 20, 30, 40 or Wheels of Time Award Badge for visiting all venues in that Area.

There is no charge to children participating in Wheels of Time, but the normal entry fees at the venues are payable. Some venues are free entry but ask that visitors make a donation. See venue information on the various Area websites for full details.

Adults accompanying children given a Wheels of Time Badge are asked to complete our Visitor Information Form OR from Easter 2024, . This helps us to gauge the success of the scheme and decide how to develop it for future years. Please refer to our Privacy page for information regarding data collection and use.
